The story

How it was built

the first prompt

Let's build a framework called Rust off Rails: a bunch of Markdown files that help agents build a project in Rust, select libraries, etc. Rules: zero handwritten code, AI only; strong opinions, but for the AI agents; map all of Ruby on Rails' parts, ideas and conventions, fully AI-based.

The human's opening prompt, lightly cleaned up.

Built entirely with AI

Mostly Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code, with one human steering by prompts. No line of the framework, or of the apps below, was typed by hand. Agents dogfooded it by building real apps from the docs, and fixed every doc that reality contradicted.

Influences: Ruby on Rails first, the mapping the prompt asked for. Then the Elixir and Phoenix ideas the human asked for along the way: Oban, the Swoosh mailbox, magic links, and, in progress, Channels/Presence and multi-node.

Built with it

  • Bookshelf

Accounts, books with covers, live reviews, the jobs dashboard and the dev mailbox.

  • This website

Built by an agent following only the docs.

  • Blog coming soon

A Rails-style blog, with a video of the whole build, driven by prompts.
